My son's car caught on fire recently and working through the claims process right now with Progressive. For the most part it has been a fairly easy process and the claims adjuster and investigator have been nice to work with.

They recently sent over their total loss valuation. The offer isn't horrible, but does seem to be out of line of what our market area is selling for. While I don't expect vehicle replacement, I do expect to find a similar vehicle, miles, condition, etc for close to the settlement offer.

When reviewing their comparables in the settlement to determine valuation, half have full vins with the dealer the vehicle was sold at including date, the other half the VIN numbers are obfuscated and it does not list where the vehicle was sold at. As I consider if I should counter, I cannot independently verify the data in their report.

Is obfuscating data like that typical? I am not looking for some grand settlement, I just want what is fairly owed to my son.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.
