My grandmother got a back operation done a little over a year ago, aswell as staying at the hospital for a awhile. The insurance approved the surgery initially but once a year came to pass, they cited the surgery wasnt medically neccesary and are now trying to bill the quarter million dollars to my grandparents. What can they do? Im really worried for them.

Insurance billed my grandparents 240k a yesr after the surgery was approved and done.

There’s an appeals process. Sometimes it’s a matter of how it was coded. Call the insurance company and appeal. You can also ask the hospital for a billing advocate. Usually high cost surgeries go through several appeal processes before they happen unless it’s an emergency procedure.

Document everything, call her carrier to make sure this isn’t a mistake, if they stand by their decision – appeal, then contact your state’s department of insurance.
