Progressive Commercial Policy: Paid Renewal Before Due Date Online- Coverage Lapsed Because That Payment Didn’t Post- Have Dated Copy of EFT Authorization Form For The Payment

Progressive Commercial Policy. Renewal for policy due on July 31st. Went online to pay renewal on July 29th. Paid the correct amount online and have a copy of the EFT Authorization Form for the payment on July 29th.

Contacted by my agent on August 21st asking had a payment been made because coverage had lapsed. Assured her I had made a payment and gave her date of payment but after checking Progressive account online as well as bank, no payment had been posted to account nor had money been taken out of banking account for that payment.

Has anyone had this happen before? The way their system works is you only have an option to print/save the EFT Authorization Form for your payment from the ‘thank you for your payment’ screen after a payment has processed. I have that form for my July 29th payment. So I 100% made a payment for the correct renewal amount on the 29th and had no indication anything was wrong until insurance agent contacted me. Why it didn’t actual post is something I don’t understand.

Never received anything from Progressive by mail stating that payment hadn’t been received/coverage was about to lapse/cancel (not sure if they do that though) and there was definitely plenty of money in the bank to cover the amount of the renewal payment.

Agent suggested to go ahead and pay again for renewal which I did. However, while my coverage is reinstated it’s showing with a lapse. Agent is to be in contact with Progressive and give them a copy of the EFT Authorization Form for when I initially made the payment on July 29th, but I’ve yet to hear back on the outcome. I feel I shouldn’t show as having a lapse in coverage when I made the renewal payment on time. I have no control over their system having a glitch or whatever happened to make the payment not actually post to their system.

In all my years of business and making payments online, I’ve never had anything like this happen. Has anyone else encountered something similar?
