I live in WA state. I have 2003 Jetta that, while it's mileage is fairly low (around 160K) for a 21 year old car, is in bad shape (exterior, interior AND has had multiple mechanical issues). I do have insurance, including of course WA state's mandatory insurance requirements for bodily liability coverage. I also have a CR-V that has some coverage as well. The thing that is not clear to me is if I can drive my Jetta without any coverage (essentially not even listed as a covered vehicle), since if I were to be involved in any collision, I would not care to repair the car. A KBB value of my car is $1900 for a private party sale, but I think that is rather optimistic. Does it make sense to get collision coverage around $1500-$2000? Right now, I have to get a coolant leak fixed which I estimate to cost around $800-$1K.

Can I drive a car that has no coverage?

I wouldn’t take out collision coverage on something like that. It sounds like the cost to fix its issues are worth more than any potential recovery on collision coverage.

Do you have liability coverage on it?
