A few years ago my sister & I moved to a new state together & then used the same agent for car insurance. Our agent kept making a series of unfortunate mistakes (to put it nicely!!!). When we first got our cards they mixed up our vehicles so my name was paired with my sister’s car & vice versa.

AFTER correcting that mistake, someone rear ended my sister & they somehow put the claim on my account?? We contacted them & it got resolved, however, it still shows up on my account as a “closed claim”.

I just moved to a new state & am switching insurance companies altogether as State Farm was no longer the best price for me. Would this closed claim affect rates that other insurance companies are giving me? Did State Farm not actually resolve the issue completely? Should I contact them to have it actually get taken off my account? Or will this not really make a difference?

Does a closed incorrect claim still affect me/my rates/etc??

    1. Also, effect/affect will kick my ass until the day I die so apologies if I used the wrong form

    2. The claim very likely was opened in case the at fault driver had insufficient coverage and was closed when everything was resolved without your insurer having to pay anything.

The claim could still affect your rates depending on the state you were in under that policy. Some states have laws against sharing MVR records with other states.
