This is my first time in this situation and it's pretty complicated (and unGooglable!) so please bear with me. Driver (apparently uninsured but driving insured car) hit me and been totally uncooperative so I filed an uninsured motorist claim /hit and run. My insurance is ready to move ahead with the repairs (though not offering rental, boo) but said theyre still trying to track him down.

Q: What would happen if during or after said repairs in the event that they find him? I did not have collision or comprehensive so it technically wouldn't be covered anymore, would they leave me on my own with the bill after already starting the repairs/process? Or would they finish it up? I literally cannot find an answer and so kinda walking on eggshells. Help appreciated

    1. If the carrier has formally (in writing) agreed to repairs then they have set aside a reservation of funds. They have agreed that a cover cause of loss has triggered the policy and, depending on the state, they only have so much time now to follow through and make you whole again.

You should be fine to proceed. It is also a fair question for your adjustor. Depending on state what i am saying may not be valid at all.

Their recourse will be to attempt to recover what they paid for your expenses from the other driver.
