My mom has insurance. The other lady the one who hit her doesn’t I guess. The cop took down the ladies info I guess but he told my mom nothing to do since she has no insurance. He told my mom to “call the lady and work something out” like sure this lady is gonna give my mom any money willingly.

My mom’s not exactly made of money either so I’m curious is there ANYTHING she can or should do? She can’t live without her car but she sure can’t afford to get a new one.

Edit to add: my mom says she has gieko and she’s only insured to get the other persons car fixed if she hit them. But she’s not insured to get her car fixed when they hit her.

    Also we’re in Washington state.

My mom just hit by a lady with a huge SUV. The ladies car was barely damaged but my mom’s car is now totaled. The lady had no insurance so the cop says my mom’s SOL basically. Anything she can do?

    1. Uh… what state and what coverage is on your mom’s policy. WAY too many assumptions without checking the basics first.

Does your mom have uninsured motorist coverage? If she does, use that.

Otherwise your only option would be to sue the lady.

    3. Her only option is to sue the lady, but if the woman doesn’t have insurance is unlikely she has money to pay for your mom’s car. Lesson learned to carry collision if you can’t afford to repair/replace your car.

This is absolutely ridiculous. That other woman should’ve been cited in her car should’ve been towed and impounded. Jurisdictions need to start doing this to people that cause accidents that don’t have insurance. Hopefully your mom has collision

    5. My mom was in a car accident back in 1998. She drove the wrong way in downtown where the streets are one way only. At that time she was uninsured and unlicensed. The driver she hit, sued her, even without her having insurance. She told the judge she couldn’t afford to pay whatever amount they charged her with but that she could do it in payments. I don’t remember the amount she was liable for, but she paid it off by paying $20 a month until it was paid in full. Took her many years, but she paid it all.

So yes you can sue the other driver if you have their information.
