My ex (never married but share two kids), gotten in an accident in 2023 whe we lived together. He went through a stop sign during a snowstorm and hit another woman. He was driving his parents' car and as far as I know covered under their insurance. He is also under my insurance as the car, title is in his name so he has to be on insurance. (Which I plan on dropping him from the insurance Tuesday because he sold me the car a few months ago I just haven't changed the title yet and we do not live together anymore). the cops did not ticket my ex because it's a bad intersection.they have actually put more signs up since that day.

Anyway he asked me for the policy number of the insurance because apparently the lady is suing him a year later for bodily harm even though she signed an agreement and accepted a claim against his parents insurance…(so he says… I think anyway I'm not sure of the details). But my ex said she signed and agreed to something and everything should have been settled. I got a letter in the mail saying there has been a claim made against my insurance from that accident in 2023….
I called my ex and of course he has no idea what is going on because he doesn't listen or care and just think it's going to work itself out….

Any idea why this claim would be made on the insurance even though he was driving his parents car and what does this mean for me the actual policy holder? What will happen if I take him off the insurance on Tuesday?

In my ex words the lawyer told him he needed the policy number to make sure he had additional coverage for bodily harm but that it should not be necessary because his parents insurance has $100,000 and should cover everything no matter what. Exercises lawyer never mentioned anything about making a claim. I feel like he is lying to me or is extremely dumb or maybe I'm overreacting… But why would they make a claim against my insurance if there was enough on his parents? Obviously I can't call till Tuesday so I'm just looking for something to go on..

They made a claim on your policy to look for excess coverage. His parent’s probably might not be enough.

They also might be looking for his parent’s policy and your policy to share the amount of the damages/settlement on a pro rata basis.

Nothing will change this if you remove him on Tuesday. You probably should, but, it’s not going to change the fact he was insured under your policy when the accident happened. This accident happened probably 9-10 months ago at most? It’s unlikely her bodily injury claim has been settled. Maybe what she signed was for her vehicle damages. Or she didn’t sign anything.
