On a recent vacation, my wife and I were slowly driving through a parking lot, trying to rendezvous with her sister by spotting her parked car. There were not many cars in the lot, but there were large (2’ tall) decorative boulders scattered throughout the area. At one point, I pointed to a car and asked my wife, who was driving, “Is that her car?” My wife turned her attention to where I was pointing and promptly collided with a smallish boulder.

Due to our low speed, there was limited damage to the front plastic bumper of her RAV4, but enough to leave it dangling. We were able to push it more or less back into position, but its clearly damaged. An estimate to repair it out of pocket came to $2700.

We don’t have any recent incidents on our record, but we live in the Sacramento area of California and our insurance was recently jacked up for that simple fact. Is it likely a claim like this will make our policy even more expensive?

Well this type of incident raise our rates?
