23F, I purchased a BMW x3 nine months ago and the rod bearings have destroyed the inside of the engine. Shop did an engine tear down and stated metal has contaminated the whole engine; therefore, the car needs a new engine. My extended warranty is only wanting to cover 60% of the cost to put a new engine in the car. I have full insurance coverage on the car, can I total the car through insurance and get paid what I still owe on the car? Or am I stuck having to pay for a new engine?

Please help! Extended warranty unwilling to pay for costs, can I total car through insurance?

Unless you have some sort of mechanical breakdown coverage you are going to be paying 40% for a new engine.

Why are they only covering 60%?

    2. Insurance does not cover mechanical issues or repairs not associated with an accident.

Also Full Coverage is not a real thing. To most people it means Liability + Collision & Comprehensive coverage + Roadside Assistance and Rental Reimbursement. Insurance companies never use the term Full Coverage.

Be glad you have the extended warranty or you’d be paying all of this yourself

    3. Take the warranty money and be glad you have that. The auto policy doesn’t cover these situations.
