I think it might be a good idea for the sub to have a pinned post related to insurance premium increases, and establish a rule for the sub that posts related to individual premium increases are removed.

The sub sees plenty of posts regarding the topic, and yes while everyone is a unique situation with perfect driving records and no claims, the reasons for premium increases are a lot of the times the same. Most of the time, the posts end up devolving into rude responses or arguments with people that don't understand, and it devalues the unique content that regular contributors provide.

    The pinned post should address:

    1. We don't know how much premium will be for individuals of a certain age, car, or coverage. Every state is different, every individual is different. Call an agent.

    2. We don't know why your premiums went up, other than the standard responses. Costs go up, claims are up, we all share the costs paid out by the pool, and everyone's prices increase accordingly. If you're unhappy, call an agent.

    3. We can't tell you how filing a claim will impact your rate. There isn't a single formula that is used, but filing a claim is generally going to negatively impact the rate calculation. Every claim is different, every claim is at least considered (if not surcharged) and every carrier calculates the rate differently. If you file a claim, you'll just have to see how it affects your rate at renewal and shop around. Call an agent.

    1. *Whines while the world’s smallest violin plays* (also sarcasm) But how will I pay for my properly risk assessed CA hillside home surrounded by trees AND lot is on an active earthquake zone? I used to pay $800 annually and now I can’t find quotes for less than $20k annually. *end sarcasm*

The existing pinned post already has an answer to “why/how much is my premium going to increase if I file” and no one ever reads it clearly.

what if there is just a summarized mod auto reply then lock it but leave it active? they’ll get the point when they get 1 automatic reply and no further validation. thats why some people come to reddit for any topic in the first place, validation from strangers. take that away and you’re left with the answers hundreds of other posts have given already.
