Insurance company claiming they couldn’t contact me

Hi,

I was involved in an accident a few years back. It was clearly a scam because the driver pulled out in front of me from a bus lane and slammed on their brakes as I was making a right turn.

I was found to be at fault because it was a rear end situation. They claimed to have been parked in the middle of the street and said I hit them while parked.

My car received a lot of damage, while their car was perfectly fine. I took the L and moved on. My mom called me today stating that someone came to our family home looking for me saying they were with the sheriff’s office and I had court for the accident.

My former insurance company hasn’t ever reached out to me about this. I was literally in contact with my insurance company and the other person’s company for MONTHS because I felt like I was being scammed.

How is it possible that my former insurance company is claiming that I wasn’t cooperating? Why am I being taken to court when I paid for my insurance?

The other person’s insurance didn’t match their car and was expired at the time of the accident.

Edit: I also want to add that I have photos from the accident there literally isn’t any damage to the other person’s car. I don’t even understand what they’re trying to get from me. My life was ruined because my car was wrecked. They may have had a scuff on their bumper.
