For this instance, please do get in touch with your insurance company. Since you only got this car a month ago, file a claim. Also were you able to talk to the owner of the other car?

    2. Get an estimate from a body shop. If the amount is within your deductible, there’s no point in making a claim – it can only hurt you to do so. If the estimate comes back significantly more than your deductible, then it’s probably a good idea to file a claim and hopefully you’re in a state where this kind of claim (not at fault hit and run) doesn’t impact your premium at renewal. Note this assumes you don’t know who hit your car.
