I’m not good with this stuff and I am sorry if this is the wrong place to post. But money is tight and my daughter needs some dental work done. I received the estimate details but I need help figuring out how much I am paying. I know the insurance is paying the 216.80 but am I to pay the $518 or $271? The patient owes is blank.

    Your dentist submit : $911.00
    Negotiated fee: $518
    Allowed amount: $271
    Your plan allows: 216.80
    Patient owes: is blank

Thank you to anyone who can help.

    1. Without seeing the actual EOB and explanation codes, my guess is you will owe $518 – $216.80.

The difference between negotiated fee and allowed amount may be a combination of alternate benefit, deductible, coinsurance and possibly denied as either a plan limit or non covered service.
