AZ. I was a passenger of the at fault driver(a friend) in a 2 vehicle auto accident. The settlement is about to happen and I have a few concerns. I don't have an attorney and I don't want to get one. I am working with my adjuster and have contacted the health care facilities myself to get the info that they need.

    1. My health insurance paid for all of it as I don't drive and never had a license. I paid my deductible and copays. I am waiting for the health insurance company to send what auto insurance owes.

    2. My biggest bill was in the ER. When the insurance company asked me to contact the medical providers to request a balance request, the ER and PT bills shows $0. There is no lien but the hospital was at some point communicating with the adjuster.

Pardon my ignorance but won't they come after me at some point to pay all that even though the statement said $0? My health insurance already paid them the contracted price.

I am afraid that once they pay the health insurance and the ER doctor bills which put a lien on the settlement, make me whole with my deductible, copays, lost wages, that if the hospital and PT comes after me at a later time and I already signed the settlement that I will end up owing them more than $20k.

What can I do to make sure I protect myself from owing anyone?

    I appreciate your help.
