Hi everyone. My daughter has been on our auto policy since 16. She’s now graduated from college and has a great job yet still lives in our home. She bought her first new car, got her own car insurance and now I’m being told in order for me to drop her on our insurance she needs to show proof her car insurance has a different residence address. As noted, she still lives at home. Is this a legit request from our current insurance company in order for me to drop her from our insurance? Providing a different address would be a lie to her insurance company. Appreciate any insight. Thanks!

If you’re still in one household, you should all still be on the same policy. Insurance carriers don’t like having households with split risks. If you can’t provide another address for your daughter (don’t lie), then they’ll likely want you to add her back on to your policy. This will cause issues with your daughter’s policy as well, if/when they learn about additional household members.

Yes. As a household resident, it is implied that your daughter has permission from you to drive your vehicle(s) at any time without explicitly receiving permission from you.
