I’ve been wondering about this for a while and wanted to hear from others in the community. For those of you who started your business or became successful entrepreneurs, do you think having a degree played a big role in getting you where you are today? Or do you feel like you could’ve gotten there without it?

Personally, I just made my last college debt payment (finally!) after hustling for years, and to be honest, a little bit of luck. I had some extra funds come in from a recent win that really helped me clear that debt once and for all. It’s a huge relief, but now I’m questioning if the degree was really worth all the time, stress, and money.

Would love to hear your thoughts, especially if you think your degree made a difference – or if you feel like it didn’t really matter in the long run. Thanks in advance!

Entrepreneurs with or without degrees – do you think having one helped you get where you are?

yes, it did help. you need a lot of courage to be an entrepreneur and a lot of confidence. a degree from an Ivy League university will give you that, plus a network, plus stretch your brain at a key time in its development. I only use the soft skills from my degree.

Depends on the field, but all points I see supporting degrees always comes down to networking. If you know how to network outside, I would say it’s a waste of time

    3. The degree itself didn’t really make much of a difference but the people I met while in college played a huge role in getting me where I’m at.

I’m not a social butterfly so I know I’d be screwed when it to promoting my restaurant online and general word of mouth if it weren’t for my college buddies and certain contacts.

    4. Not at all. In fact I would say college education molds your thought style where “critical thinking” is not actively encouraged. Not sure why that is the case when it should be the opposite. But critical thinking is what is required for entrepreneurship. It’s not as important if someone just wants to be an employee in the file-and-rank system.
