I'm buying a home. I'm closing on 10/13 and moving in 11/3. During that time period, the seller will be moving out. They retain occupancy for 3 weeks. Will my homeowner policy cover in case anything happens during those 3 weeks? (Allstate). Thanks

    1. Your new homeowners policy will cover anything that it would normally cover that you have an insurable (financial) interest in, such as the house and other structures. It will not cover the prior owners personal property because you have no interest in it. All of my preferred carriers will issue a homeowners policy for the new owner if it will owner occupied within 30 days, so you would be fine there, with the carriers that I represent. I think that’s pretty common, but you should ask your agent. I doubt it,,but it could be that different companies or states could vary. A 30 second call for peace of mind is quick, easy, and free.
