I feel so bad and my parents are probably going to be really pissed. I just got a new car 3 weeks ago and my insurance 2 weeks ago. I’m a very new driver who just got my license 5months ago.
I work at a bakery with a small parking lot, sometimes cars like to park right in front of the store behind all the parked cars. Today I just got off work and backed up a bit too fast without paying attention (I’m really exhausted so I wasn’t feeling especially aware). I didn’t notice his car was parked right there close to the entrance and I backed up into his rear. There is now a dent by my trunk.
I forgot to take pictures of any potential damages of his car. But I took pictures of mine. We also exchanged information. We police wasn’t called. We do have security cameras that probably saw everything.
We shopped around for quotes for a while since insurance companies don’t really like insuring new drivers now. I’m so worried that this accident may spike up our rates. What do I do?
I got into a minor fender bend

How bad is the damage? It could be better to just pay for the damage instead of making a claim. I had a similar situation a few years ago.
In 2019 I too was a new driver and hit a non-moving car.
Insurance settled for $2,082. This has affected by rates as some insurances have record for 6 years. Since then I have had 1 other claim and a speeding ticket. My insurance rate doubled and I had to find a new insurance provider.
