Hey all- with all the tech gurus and everyone on YouTube predicting millions of people who are going to be losing their jobs soon with the advent of gen AI, I am curious, have AI already replaced any jobs inside your business already?

In my case, I work at a small startup where everyone is AI tools. For example, I use ChatGPT daily and our engineers use tools like Github Copilot, which we pay for. But I do not think any AI is completely replaced any jobs yet.

We tried Intercom Fin, their AI support agent hoping to not need a customer support person full time but it was terrible. So we went back to normal Intercom and hired a real customer success agent remotely.

Yes, in an internet online shop.

It has replaced the need for extensive customer support. The customers are directed to online troubleshooting.

It has replaced the need for graphic designers because most of the templates are being done with the help of AI.

It has replaced the need for frontend designers. Most of the work is being done by less people with the help of AI.

There are still people responsible in all of these sectors but reduced by 50%. There haven’t been any layoffs. Just some people have changed jobs and were not replaced. Their workload was assigned to other people who improved their productivity due to help from AI.

    3. We haven’t let anyone go.

We have put off hiring because the current staff can manage the workload when supported by AI tools.

    4. Definitely yes. Just that it’s not where you expect it to happen. Most of the talk today has been about how employees like software engineers would lose their jobs.

But in my personal experience here are where I have seen it happen

      1. **Support & Call Centers:** Inside my company, our support team is now able to resolve queries faster by using an internal AI search. We still dont let the AI answer customer directly but instead of requiring 5 support agents, we only need 2 today. Similarly a lot of of my friends who use call centers for customer support told me tools like Retell have replaced 50% of calls with AI agents.
      2. **Content writing:** This again was a $400 billion+ industry mostly dominated by gig workers on fiver, upwork etc. Today tools like wosily are slowly replacing content writers with AI agents agent. Just like support, you still need a human eye but and someone overseeing everything but often times this is the head of marketing or CEO spending 10 minutes every week
      3. **Backoffice Administration:** Back-offices for businesses like Insurance that often involved a lot of underwriting and filling paper work was hiring cheap labor to do this. Today companies like claimsorted is replaced these AI agents as well.

Having said that, I do not see AI replacing programmers, doctors, lawyers (maybe corporate lawyers who fill paperwork but cost of mistake is usually too high) anytime soon.

      What do you all think?

It’s wild how much AI is integrated into startups these days! At my previous job, we leaned heavily on AI tools too, like automating some marketing tasks. But just like you said, nothing beats the human touch especially in customer support. We tried an AI chatbot as well, and it was a total flop. Sometimes, the old-school approach wins out.

    6. AI atm is a great copilot and most effective way is to use this way right now.

Also, I’m curious, what exactly was terrible with Fin?

I currently run a business where I build POCs for companies before they invest in MVPs. From working with clients, I’ve seen AI replace jobs, and people cursing AI. In a recent demo, I could see both fear and excitement among employees.

Like you mentioned, AI isn’t always ideal right now, but it’s best to embrace it since it’s evolving daily. Starting with AI—even if the initial results aren’t great—can still be better than starting from scratch. Over time, it’ll improve.

    8. Yes. The film and television industry is using A.I based everything right now. A lot of investment is waiting to see how they can make shows with less staff and it’s created a dog eat dog environment especially in post production. It’s not looking good. My studio is up in the air right now

    9. Company fired 85 people in customer support to move to an AI solution, so it’s taken those jobs

From my perspective, AI hasn’t outright replaced any roles, but it’s definitely made things easier. I use tools like ChatGPT for copywriting—whether it’s brainstorming, getting drafts going, or just cleaning up copy—and it’s definitely good in terms of speeding up my workflow. But it’s still not at the level where it can handle everything, especially the creative stuff or understanding the brand voice well.

    11. I own software development and website design agencies. I’ve built AI to handle all QA, including test case script generation (the hard part) using a combination of techniques. Half of my business analytics team. Most of my marketing team. Working on agentic AI SDRs right now to supplement my sales team.

My art department went from 12 people to 4. Now, using an AI tool, I can do the work of 2-3 artists: what used to take me 2-3 days can now be done in 3-6 hours.

    13. AI is not so much going to replace job entirely for now. What it will do instead is make the current employees more efficient which results in less need to hire more.

Out company is heavy leaving into AI and for all of us to learn it. The whole “AI won’t take your job, someone who knows how to use it will”

So they are hosting monthly seminars where diff people across various departments and sisters companies show how to properly create prompts, how to utilize it for brainstorming, tasks that would have required an agency can now be broken down. Etc etc

it will take sometime because organizations are very protective of their data. AI will not replace but will reduce the number of jobs. People who will succeed is who use AI tools effectively. Data science is one of the popular teams which will be reduced to very less number as people can query the data in natural language to find any patterns or correlations. I’m already working on GEN AI product which talks to the data at any complex levels, replacing the need of data science teams to build models etc.

      > Hey all- with all the tech gurus and everyone on YouTube predicting millions of people who are going to be losing their jobs soon with the advent of gen AI,

Technology has always, and will always, change relative demand for skills rather than reduce net labor demand. Slightly more advanced ML models are not magic and don’t change how reality works.

Economically illiterate people on YouTube are not the best sources to understand economics from.

No. I use AI to refine all my presentations and emails. So I get back time just enough to take the kids to sports and be with my wife more.
