My husband ships out for bootcamp then school soon and my “home of residence” is California. But what happens if I end up moving out of state while he’s at school? Does that mess up our BAH or how does that work?

    1. Unless there are unusual circumstances, your husband will be paid BAH with dependents for the location he is stationed at. Unless he receives unaccompanied orders some where, the military assumes you are with him and he will be paid BAH for the location he is stationed at.

Thanks to the Military Spouse Residency Relief Act, Veterans Auto and Education Improvement Act of 2022, and Servicemembers Civil Relief Act **Military spouses can pick 1 of 3 options for their state of legal residence:**

So either match the servicemember, keep your old state, or change to the current state you’re in.

Usually it’s simple and beneficial to establish residency if you are stationed somewhere that doesn’t have state income tax such as Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming and you intend to reside there upon completion of military service.

    2. While he’s at initial training, his BAH is based on your location. If you move, you’ll want to get your DEERS Record updated and he’ll want to update his personnel records for BAH.

Just update your address in deers after he’s done with his tech school or you’ll lose that high BAH.
