Massively! I was lucky to have 2 great mentors throughout my career who have an impressive curriculum as directors in international companies.
Besides all the knowledge they have passed me, it is also about network. A mentor willing to share his network, increases by far your chances of success. Without them it would have been impossible to achieve half of everything I’ve achieved.
Now you may be asking, how did you manage to connect with your mentors? It was a mix of luck and taking advantage of opportunities. I met my first mentor while working for a SME. The director of the company invited my mentor to help growing the business and I had the opportunity to work really close to him as product developer. We started trusting a lot in each other and nowadays we are very close friends. I was impressed by his curriculum and experience and he was impressed by my hard working and technical skills.
My second mentor was introduced to me by my first mentor 😂

    2. I went to networking events for associations in my industry. I was very fortunate to vibe with someone who had a similar business, but not competing, that he’d successfully grown for a few decades.

I wasn’t searching for a mentor, however. We just connected.

I know there are organizations that will help hook you up with a mentor. Nationally look into the SBA and if you’re a poc MEDA is a good option. I’ve worked with both organizations and they were very helpful. You’ll probably have other options in your area as well.
