I got a letter today about my accident that happened about 5 years ago. I was driving my parents car but wasn't apart of their insurance.

The letter says I have to pay a claim of about $4.5k. A statement from the letter states, "It is indicated from the materials provided to me by Progressive that the incident may have resulted in your negligence."

When it happened. It was declared that it was no one's fault. Just wondering why I'm getting now. Should I forward this to my current insurance?

    1. The statute of limitations is running out on the claim so they are choosing now to try and settle. It’s pretty common practise. Although normally they ask for millions so yours is pretty mild. You need to forward it to whatever insurance company you had at the time of the accident.

    2. Not a part of your parents’ insurance? Even if you were not a resident relative you would or should be covered by their insurance as a permissive user. Their insurer should be notified as well as any insurer you may have had at that time. Their insurer should be primary unless for some reason your car was out of service and you were using their car as a substitute vehicle. In that case your insurer at that time would normally be primary.
As far as the letter you received, who was it from? And ask that copies of all alleged materials provided by Progressive be copied and sent to you.
Finally, assuming you recall the accident were you at fault/negligent in some manner and was a PR made out?
