    Forties Pipeline is Flowing Again

    Following a brief outage on Wednesday last week, Ineos confirmed the Oil and natural gas have started flowing again from the Forties pipeline in the North Sea,

    The Forties pipeline, carries around a quarter of all North Sea crude oil output and roughly a third of Britain’s total offshore natural gas production, shut down on Wednesday for the second time in two months, after a feed control valve closed at its Kinneil facility in Scotland.

    The pipeline, which Swiss-based INEOS bought in late October for $250 million from BP, carries around 450,000 barrels per day of Forties crude oil.

    Drilling begins at Faroe Petroleum’s Fogelberg appraisal well

    Faroe Petroleum confirmed drilling has started at the Fogelberg appraisal well and contingent sidetrack in the Norwegian North Sea.

    The oil and gas discovery at Fogelberg was made in April 2010 in licence PL433.

    Faroe Petroleum chief executive Graham Stewart said: “We are pleased to announce the spud of the Fogelberg appraisal well, which aims to de-risk and prove up commercial volumes in the Fogelberg field ahead of any decision to develop the field. “Fogelberg was one of Faroe’s earlier discoveries and has the potential to join a number of development and pre-development projects, which are on track to significantly grow Faroe’s production, cash-flow, and value in the coming years.”

    Aker Solutions Wins Services Contract from Petrobras in Brazil

    Aker Solutions won a contract to provide maintenance and modifications services for three platforms at Petrobras-operated oil and gas fields offshore Brazil, expanding its business in a key international market.

    The four-year contract is valued at about NOK 800 million and includes an option for a one-year extension. The order covers a range of services to renovate, repair and upgrade the floating production storage and offloading platforms, or FPSOs, at the Barracuda, Caratinga and Albacora Leste fields in the Campos Basin. It also entails management at the yard where replacement parts and other equipment will be fabricated.

    Fairfield Energy awards subsea infrastructure decommissioning contract to Bibby Offshore for Greater Dunlin Area

    Fairfield Energy, the North Sea oil and gas operator and decommissioning specialist, has awarded Bibby Offshore, a leading subsea services provider to the oil and gas industry, the contract for the subsea infrastructure decommissioning of the Greater Dunlin Area.

    Bibby Offshore will procure supporting services from a consortium of suppliers, including the Port of Cromarty Firth. The scope of the contract includes the subsea infrastructure associated with the Osprey and Merlin subsea fields and other infrastructure tied back to the Dunlin Alpha Platform. These scopes were defined in the Decommissioning Programmes approved by OPRED, the Offshore Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning, in December.

    Dundee firm uses augmented reality to improve efficiency

    A Dundee tech start-up has secured a contract to develop an augmented reality app to improve efficiency in the oil and gas sector.

    Mozenix, based in the Vision Building in Dundee, was established last summer to test the commercial validity of AR technology.

    Led by Michael Brown and Michael Romilly, who is a co-founder of Dundee mobile agency Waracle, they teamed up with Aberdeen software company Return to Scene to develop the mobile app for the energy sector. The software uses the camera on a smartphone or tablet to recognise oil and gas structures and then bring up identification tags and information about them on screen.

    Return To Scene’s head of product development and support Martin Macrae, explained: “Offshore oil and gas assets are complex, adaptive structures with a constant flow of actions being undertaken by international teams.
